A Love Supreme

He who takes comfort in the joy of love has already taken shelter in the household of God.  Because God is love and his home, what we call heaven, has always been right there in your heart.

We have all asked the same question that every other generation has questioned with their head to the sky.  What is the meaning of this life?  I have asked myself this question either consciously or subconsciously at least once a day for most of my adulthood.  And until recently, I still had not the vaguest of an idea.  Then as I was editing the last post, it hit me like a shit ton of bricks, right there in the midst of my chest.  How could it be so candid?  Was it really that simple?  Was the answer beating there all along, smack dab in the middle of my heart, where it always has been?  Yes it was because it is indeed Love.

Love is the secret to living a meaningful life.  Love alone requires us to observe all spiritual law.  Love then, is the convention of the Law.  Love is the only rule that employs all other rules.  Love is the decree that supports all other decrees. Paul learned this and with his letter to the Corinthians, he gave us the answer that we all have pondered its question at one point or another.  Paul gave us the best narrative of the highest good.

When Paul says of the great teachers:  If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I become a noisy gong, or a clanging cymbal.

This is because often we hear of great ideas capable of changing the world, but if these ideas are bereft of feeling, vacant of Love, or lacking emotional creativity, they will not touch us, however gifted they may seem.

Why would love be greater than Faith?  Could it be because Faith is merely a path that leads us to a greater love?  I believe so.

We then find Paul comparing Love with sacrifice:  If I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not Love, I gain nothing.

We must understand that we cannot give anything more essential than the Love reflected in our own lives.  Love is the dialect of the universe.  A man’s message of Faith only lay in the way he lives his life and not in the words he says. Ahem…Sorry just clearing my throat.  Where were we?  If you take your Love with you wherever you go, the work you do will befit itself. You may achieve everything you set the goal of your dreams upon, but if you sacrifice yourself for the greater good and carry no Love, you will have attained nothing for yourself or God’s foundation.

Patience. Kindness.  Generosity.  Humility. Courtesy.  Unselfishness.  Good temper. Genuineness.  Sincerity.  These are all the fixings deemed necessary to build a Love Supreme.  These are all gifted to our lives from our souls.  And to those who are honestly close to God, the ability to practice these gifts day in and day out will spread the grace of Love with effortlessness.  A Love so supreme reflects the Holy Breath, it is not just a breath in itself, but the words and actions that make up the existence of an ordinary day.

Love is patient because Love understands.  It can bear all things.  It is hope for all things.

Love is active when it practices kindness.  There is only one thing greater than happiness and that is holiness.  The latter we need not try and comprehend. The prior we should try and achieve every day by making other people happy.  We are blessed with that gift and it doesn’t cost a damn thing.  Happiness does not breed in captivity and it will not diminish when given freely.  The greatest thing a man can do for his Heavenly Father is to be kind to all of His children.  I believe this world in which we live today should all study up on the kindness of Love. Kindness comes with a reward scattered abundant, for no debt is more honored than the debt of Love.

Love has its roots in generosity.  Love does not envy.  Love is not a competition.  Let others love and try and love more without boasting.  Do your part, do your best.  The only way to escape envy is to focus all of your energy upon Love.

Now we come to the secret ingredient of Love that I feel is missing from society’s recipe.  It is common courtesy.  Courtesy is love amongst all people. Courtesy is not superfluous.  Courtesy is Love for all of the little things.  Love is not rude.

Love has always been unselfish, for it should not claim that it goes its own way.  Love is so reflective that no one who really loves does so with a reward in mind.  Love is sufficient unto itself.  Do you seek prodigious things for yourself?  Seek them not.  Things are not great.  The only thing that can be defined as great is unselfish Love. The burden of Love is indeed light.  The burden is the way that Love lives.  When Love seeks no reward it will fill every minute of your existence with light. There is no long-term happiness in getting, only by giving.

Love is not something that can be provoked.  Love is well tempered.  Love is balanced.  In the eyes of Love there is no vice worse than a malicious temper.  There is no place in Heaven for ill-tempered and intolerant ignorance.  One man with these personae alone would make bliss amiss for all.  For a man to find His kingdom he must carry bliss in his soul.

It is simply not enough to speak of these notions, as well as melee with them.  We must seek their hiding spots within us, to change our intimate nature, to seek illumination.  Once you begin to do this, the anger will give way to humbleness. The soul will begin give way to a gentler day, because we put in the necessary Love to make us a better person. This is no easy task because as one begins to let down their guard, the evil spirits lurking in the corner will attack at any sign of weakness.

But God is Love, a Love which infiltrates us with light, it sweetens with time, it drips from the gland of life and it purifies, while transforming the world around you, or at least the way you perceive it.  Love squanders away all error, it renovates, it is regenerative and it rebuilds us from the inside out.  Love is the only way in which we will ever create Heaven on this earth.  So remember to let Love rule.  This is a matter of life and death, because it is better not to live than not to love.

Let us move on to genuineness.  The people in our lives who influence us and touch at the deepest depths of our souls are those who believe in us.  When staring genuineness in the face, we grow and our circles expand.  The synchronicity alone can transform us beyond what we ever believed.  Those who understand us, they transform us.  And again those who Love, win.  I imagine it’s quite splendid to always live in the light of that sort of blessing, to be able to watch those you love grow into better versions of themselves just because you believe in them.  It is trust that stands at arm’s length with Love.  And the only way to achieve that is to trust in all people.  There is no harm that can be done to genuineness when paralleled to the joy carried in your expression for life.  This is the only way one is to ever find peace.  If you believe in someone enough and that person considers you to be their equal, these words they will hear and they will start to believe in their own self that they can be a better person.

For the final fixing, let us discuss sincerity.  Love is not something that rejoices at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the Truth.  Let us seek the Truth with an unbiased mind and be content with what we find.  Real love does not consist in exposing the weakness of others, but instead it accepts all that is real and rejoices that things are better than what people led on.

So how do we learn to Love? Lucky for us, life is full of endless opportunities to learn.  Every one of us, man and woman, are given ample opportunities to give themselves to Love. For the longest time, I believed life to be one big holiday, but now I see it as an extended education.  And its most important lesson, the lesson of life, is how do we Love better.  What makes someone extraordinary at something?  It’s as simple as it is practice.  What makes us better versions of ourselves?  Practice.

Spiritual growth is applied to the same laws as your body and your soul.  If you don’t implement an exercising regiment and apply it your core, your core will never develop its necessary strength.  If you don’t train your soul, you will never develop strength of character or witness the beauty of spiritual growth.

Love is a force, a radiation of beneficent, life-giving energy.  It’s the victory over self-indulged passion and it is a power not to be reckoned with evil tendencies.  The whole of this moral life consists of acquiring spiritual prowess and conquering our weakness that hides in the darkness.  And I may say with hints of certainty that love is life-in-itself, and so is creativeness, as is the contemplation of the spiritual world.

There was a day that I sat by a river not so long ago, and now I see that the river it still teaches me. For the river is Love and that day I learned from it to listen with Love, to pay the closest of attentions with a quiet heart, with a waiting and opened soul, without a passion to point me in the wrong direction, without a wish, and damn sure without judgment.  For Love is wise when you start to notice it in everyone’s eyes.  Love is the supremacy of a soul, and a Love Supreme leaves the world whole.

It is Love that teaches us to be patient, humbled, generous, unselfish, kindred and most of all, courteous. Do not push away the Hand that is shaping the image of you, because that same Hand is also clearing the Path that waits ahead and it will be shaped by how much Love you carry around inside of you.

Until the next time.

My roots are buried in the Dirty South. I grew up learning the importance of God and Southern Charm. I began writing in my late teens mostly through heartbreak and music. I moved out west 15 years ago and live right around the corner from the Fountain Of Youth. Most people refer to it as Lake Tahoe. I play Chef during the day and search for ways to save the world by night, through reading, writing, and believing. I enjoy the side of life that is less abrasive. I look forward to joining you on my quest through Spiritual Sobriety with the Promised Land as our ultimate destination.
