I wrote this in Lake Tahoe over a decade ago.  Widespread Panic played at Montbleu for three nights over Fourth of July weekend.  Regardless, Lake Tahoe gets a little nuts around this time of year.  Have a safe and happy Fourth of July every one.

Stars and bars wave through the wind
A cooler bounces through the grass
Careful not to step on the glass
God bless this country
And those who made it true
Goddamn, the red, the white, and the blue
Tents on boats and a fresh pack of smokes
Sparklers, sprinklers, shovels and sand
Getting us geared up for the band
Light up the grill and gimme the whiskey
The keg is tapped and the water cold
Crack open your favorite flavor
Make sure to grab some party favors
Let the first swallow savor
For the taste of freedom
Has never felt sweeter
The jubilee will soon begin
Before we finish off the weekend
While we climb to the ascent
Right after the fireworks come to an end

My roots are buried in the Dirty South. I grew up learning the importance of God and Southern Charm. I began writing in my late teens mostly through heartbreak and music. I moved out west 15 years ago and live right around the corner from the Fountain Of Youth. Most people refer to it as Lake Tahoe. I play Chef during the day and search for ways to save the world by night, through reading, writing, and believing. I enjoy the side of life that is less abrasive. I look forward to joining you on my quest through Spiritual Sobriety with the Promised Land as our ultimate destination.
